Career Ready Competencies

Working as a student employee on campus can be a great way to gain Career Ready Competencies and prepare you for your post-graduation career.

Developing Career Ready Competencies such as effective communication, problem solving, and/or teamwork skills can be critical to your future success after graduation. Whether or not the job is directly related to your major or desired career path, just about any job can provide you with key professional competencies. For example, even manual labor often involves teamwork, perhaps creativity and/or attention to detail. And the fact that you are working and going to school speaks to your initiative and time management skills.

These competencies and experiences can be highlighted on resumes and in interviews to demonstrate to future employers the breadth of your experience and abilities. Utilize the Career Ready Competencies tool to help you identify and develop your skills. If you need assistance on using the tool or any other career related support please contact The Center for Career Development.
